About Flaca Food

This blog is dedicated to my sister-in-law. She is a newly-wed who asked me to write down some recipes for her to try out.

When I cook, I almost never look at a written recipe. I learn by doing, so the items on this blog will have lots of photos and just a few words.

Why is it called Flaca Food? When my sister-in-law was a baby, my husband called her "La Gorda" because of her adorable chubbiness. When I first got married, I was appalled that he still referred to his beautiful, thin sister as "La Gorda". As a white woman in the US, it took me months to really believe this word that translates as "Fatty" was a term of endearment. Today, irrespective of our weights, my husband is "El Gordo", my sister-in-law is "La Gorda" and I am "La Flaca"
